I’ve given a lot of thought to the post I am about to write and though it makes me sad, I think I need to do it (common theme in my life right now).

I am going on an indefinite hiatus from Va Bene. This doesn’t mean I’ll never come back to it, it just means I’m taking a break for awhile.

Unfortunately, writing has been something I’ve had less and less time for. That’s a bit of a cop out though. This is not all about my schedule. I just haven’t had the desire to write lately. That’s always been common for me- I go through spurts when it comes to writing and right now I’m just not feeling compelled to sit down and express myself through my blog posts.

More and more I’ve felt that posting has become a chore, another thing on my to-do list. That’s never what this was supposed to be about. I never wanted to become repetitive and I wanted my ideas to stay thoughtful and authentic. It was never supposed to be about the quantity. As of late, I just haven’t found myself staying true to this.

I started Va Bene at a very unique time in my life when I truly felt that I needed it. Unemployment/my quarter-life crisis was one of the scariest and most anxiety evoking experiences I’ve ever had to go through, and I can honestly say this blog helped me get through it. It gave me something to look forward to and something to be proud of when I felt my most inadequate. It allowed me to express my creativity, to vent, to share and to hopefully connect with others out there going through some of the same things. It has been, above all, so much fun and such a great thing to have tried.

My life has changed so much since last February, in the best ways possible. In the past year, not only have a found a job, but I’ve started a career at a company that one could only hope to work for. Is it hard and crazy and stressful at times? Yes. Most of the time? Yes. But sometimes I stop for a minute and I realize how insanely lucky I am to be doing what I am doing. I was waiting tables at this time last year…

Huh…life is funny. And good.

I know I’ll come back to Va Bene someday. I’m still trying to figure out the juggling act of life and I know I still have SO much to learn and experience. There will be another time when I strongly feel the inspiration and need to write. I hope you’ll all be here again to follow and read. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your support, comments and encouragement. This year has been an exciting one and I am so glad I got to share my thoughts with you.

I’m not going to say “good bye” because this isn’t permanent. Instead I’ll say “arrivederci,” which means “until we meet again” in Italian, because I can promise you this girl will have much more to say.

All my best,

Sephora Collection: Long-Lasting Eye Liner

Behold my latest obsession…

I was looking for a new eye liner for the holiday season and decided to try Sephora Collection: Long-Lasting Eye Liner in Glitter Taupe. I’m not one who generally likes liquid liners, so I wasn’t too hopeful, but I fell in love with this product! Not only does it go on extremely easy, but it’s fast-drying and DOES NOT smudge. The color is very versatile, so I’ve been continuing to wear it after the holidays. I think it works for both work and a night out (maybe go a little lighter at the office). It lasts for hours and still looks clean and precise at the end of the day. AND it’s only $10. What more could a girl ask for? Definitely needing to purchase some more colors…

Vulnerability, huh? So that’s the word for what I’m feeling…

80 Years Young

This past weekend the entire family (all 19 of us) went up to Pismo Beach to celebrate my poppa’s 80th birthday. Pismo is such a quaint, relaxing little place. It was the perfect weekend getaway.

All Poppa wanted for his birthday was time away with all of us. Over the weekend I couldn’t help but think how proud he must be. He started all of this–three great kids and their spouses, and eleven beautiful grandchildren ranging in age from twenty-four to ten months. I’m not going to say we don’t fight. I’m not going to say there aren’t times when we annoy the hell out of each other.  But I will say that at the end of the day we enjoy one another. We don’t take for granted that what we have is special.

I don’t love anyone like I love these 18 people. I can’t imagine how Poppa must feel about us. What a good life he’s made…what a good life.

Happy New Year!

Hello there!

Finally back and ready for all that 2012 has to bring! The holidays were wonderful, but I’m so excited for the fresh start that comes with the new year.

For my first post since my little break, I thought what better way to get started than with my new year’s resolutions?

To begin, I’ll start with the word that I’ve chosen for this year: BALANCE

2011 brought so many fantastic changes to my life, but I felt very out of balance for a good portion of the year. For Christmas, one of my best friends sent me a little shell inscribed with the word “balance” that you’ll see in the picture below. Immediately it inspired me!

This year I will find a better balance between life, work, family, friends and time for myself. Isn’t this what we all want? 🙂 Although it may sound a little vague, I’ll leave you with my 10 new year’s resolutions to give you the details.

1.       Make my health a priority.

  •  Exercise regularly
  • Eat healthy
  • Start doing yoga again

2.       Be more adventurous.

  • Travel to three new places I’ve never been before

3.       Blog consistently.

4.       Put money into savings.

  • Buy a new car by the end of this year

5.       Read a book once a month.

6.       Stay positive and optimistic. Get rid of the negativity.

7.       Spend more quality time with the people in my life.

8.       RELAX. Everything and everyone doesn’t always need to be perfect.

9.       Start reading the newspaper.

10.     Stay inspired by all the opportunities and possibilities that lie ahead. Don’t get stagnant or complacent.

Would love to hear your resolutions! Happy New Year to you all! Stay hopeful.

going “on holiday”

I realize I haven’t posted in a little over two weeks, which makes me sad, but with the holiday season upon us, things are just crazy busy in the best way possible. I try and soak up all things holiday related during this time of year and really just want to enjoy as much as I can of the Christmas festvities. That being said, I’ll be going “on holiday” from the blog for a bit. Hoping to maybe post a few things here or there, but probably not anything really substantial until after the new year.

Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! So much to be grateful for.

Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy new year.

Remember – ‘Tis the season to be jolly! 😉

All my best,
